Siobhan Lynch, 30, of Coney Island, was killed in a pedestrian crash at the intersection of Cropsey Avenue and Bay Parkway in Brooklyn on October 28, according to police.
What Happened at Cropsey Avenue and Bay Parkway
Police said the crash happened at about 6:45 p.m. in the Bath Beach area. Police said Lynch was crossing Bay Parkway from the southwest corner to the southeast corner when an eastbound Department of Sanitation garbage truck struck her. Police said the truck was making a right turn.
Police reported that Lynch was thrown several feet and suffered severe body trauma. EMS took her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she was pronounced dead. Police said the truck's 41-year-old operator remained at the scene.
What the Collision Investigation Squad Is Doing
Police said the Collision Investigation Squad of the NYPD Highway District is carrying out the investigation. Officers from the 62nd Precinct went to the scene after the crash. Police said no charges have been filed against the truck operator, and no arrests have been made. A Department of Sanitation spokesperson said the agency is assisting the NYPD with its investigation.
Investigators write down the weather, lighting and road surface after every serious crash. Recording those details is routine and does not point to any single cause.

Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
