Statesville, North CarolinaPublished 1 min read

Curtis Warren, 25, of Cornelius, was killed in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Red Cedar Lane and Sullivan Farm Road in Statesville on October 2, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The Evening Collision on Sullivan Farm Road

Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 8:24 p.m. A 2009 Hyundai passenger car was attempting a left turn from Red Cedar Lane onto Sullivan Farm Road when it collided with a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling east on Sullivan Farm Road. Warren succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai was not reported injured.

Why Motorcycle Crashes Become So Severe

According to North Carolina DOT, 202 motorcyclists were killed in North Carolina in 2023. The crash occurred as a car made a left turn at an intersection while a motorcycle was traveling through. Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, who has represented families after fatal motorcycle crashes, told Accident News in an earlier interview, "A motorcycle offers none of the protection a car does, so a collision a driver would walk away from can be devastating for the rider. Riders are most exposed when a driver turns left across their path or changes lanes without seeing them."

Where the State Highway Patrol Investigation Stands

The collision remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be presented to the Iredell County District Attorney's Office for review. No charges have been announced.

Bond added, "Because the law weighs each driver's duty of care, investigators reconstruct a motorcycle crash from the sight lines, the point of impact, and the other vehicle's movements to establish whether a motorist turned across the rider's path or failed to look."
