Michelle Lynn Boston, 46, of Cypress, was killed in a car crash near the intersection of Golden Circle Drive and 4th Street in Santa Ana on November 2, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.

The Night Crash at Golden Circle Drive

Police said officers from Tustin were chasing a vehicle that was heading north on Golden Circle Drive when the crash happened. Police said the driver of that vehicle, Andrew Raul Gonzalez, 21, of Downey, entered the intersection and collided with a vehicle traveling westbound on 4th Street. Tustin police asked Santa Ana police for help at about 9:55 p.m.

Santa Ana officers and crews from the Orange County Fire Authority arrived to find three people in the vehicle that was hit. Two of them were taken to a local hospital, and Boston, a passenger, later died from her injuries. Authorities have not given an update on the second injured occupant or the third person in the vehicle.

What the Santa Ana Police Investigation Covers

Police said they arrested Gonzalez at the scene and took him to the Santa Ana Jail. Investigators said they suspect impairment contributed to the crash, but they did not say whether alcohol, drugs or both were involved. Information about charges was not immediately available. The crash is under review by the Collision Investigation Unit of the Santa Ana Police Department, and police have not said what prompted the pursuit.

Blood test results from a state lab can take weeks, so charges sometimes come well after a crash.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in California usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
