The Wednesday Night Crash on Buckskin Road

The crash happened at about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday. Woodring was driving a 2019 Buick Enclave east on Buckskin Road. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the Buick had stopped and was making a left turn onto The Bend Road when a westbound 2011 Toyota Camry struck it. The patrol said the driver of the Camry ran the stop sign.

The patrol said the Camry then went off the right side of the road and hit a pole. Life Flight took Woodring to Saint Vincent's Hospital in Toledo with serious injuries. The patrol said the Camry's driver, a 39-year-old man from Toledo, was not hurt, and that both drivers were wearing safety belts.

Where the Highway Patrol Investigation Stands

The crash remains under investigation by the Defiance Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The Defiance County Sheriff's Office, the Delaware Township Fire Department, Life Flight, Toledo Edison and a towing company assisted at the scene. The patrol has not announced any charges.

Many newer cars keep a short record of the moments around a crash. Investigators may download that data, and making sense of it can take weeks.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Ohio usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
