How the I-35 Truck Crash Unfolded
The crash happened just after 3 a.m. on a Monday along I-35 near downtown Austin. Austin Police said an 18-wheeler hit the center concrete median and flipped onto its side. Police said no other vehicles were involved. According to police, the driver was brought to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Fuel spilled onto the roadway, and a hazmat truck was sent to the scene.
What Comes Next After the Austin Closure
Both directions of I-35 were shut at first, with debris on the road blocking the southbound side. The southbound lanes reopened within about an hour, while the northbound lanes were expected to stay closed for a few hours. The Austin Fire Department and the Texas Department of Transportation worked with police on the fuel cleanup. Police have not said what led to the crash, and no charges have been announced.
