How the Alabama 21 Crash Unfolded
The crash happened at about 12:45 a.m. near mile marker 246 on Alabama 21, roughly three miles north of Munford. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said Shell was at the wheel of a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan that struck a 2001 Peterbilt 330 tow truck. The agency said no one was inside the tow truck, which was in the road to recover a disabled vehicle. Shell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Where the Highway Patrol Investigation Stands
The Highway Patrol Division of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the crash. No charges have been announced, and the agency has not released further details about what happens next.
Investigators often ask nearby homes and businesses for camera video soon after a crash. Many systems record over old footage after a few days or weeks, so they move fast.
