How the I-35 Crash Near Temple Unfolded

Simien said she was driving her Kia Soul in the left lane of I-35 when a semitrailer moved into her lane. She said she braked, but the back of the trailer caught her SUV and pulled it along for about 200 feet. According to Simien, the SUV then came loose and spun into the middle of the interstate with its airbags deployed. Simien said another semi driver stopped and helped her reach the emergency lane. She walked away with minor injuries. Her grandmother, Lisa Hunt, said the truck driver never got out of the cab and drove off.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Where the Search for the Semi Driver Stands

Hunt said a Department of Public Safety officer told her no cameras were nearby, because the crash happened close to the meeting point of three counties. The family said the identity of the truck driver is still unknown to them. They are asking anyone with photos or video that could help to come forward. No charges have been announced.

In a hit-and-run, the first weeks are usually about finding the vehicle. Tips and home camera video from neighbors often matter most.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Texas usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
