How the SC-201 Crash Unfolded
The Highway Patrol said the single-vehicle crash happened at about 11:26 p.m. Troopers said a 2005 Toyota 4Runner carrying two people was heading south when it left the road on the left side and hit a tree. The driver died. A helicopter took the passenger to Greenville Memorial Hospital, and troopers have not described the passenger's condition. Troopers said no other vehicles were involved.
What Comes Next After the Abbeville County Crash
The Highway Patrol has not released the driver's name. Troopers said the Abbeville County Coroner's Office is expected to share further details about the driver. Troopers have not said what caused the vehicle to leave the road.
Vehicles from a serious crash are often towed to a secure lot and held for inspection. That is a standard step, and the vehicles can be held for weeks.
