What Happened on Schuyler Street

Deputies responded to the crash at about 11:36 p.m. The sheriff's office identified the e-bike rider as Jeannie M. Morgan, 58, of Fort Edward, and the passenger as Megan G. Devino, 40, of Fort Edward. The sheriff's office said Morgan lost control while turning from Lower Oak Street onto Schuyler Street. The sheriff's office said Morgan was not wearing a helmet and had a severe head injury. Fort Edward EMS took her to the Wilton Fire Department, and a LifeNet helicopter flew her to Albany Medical Center. Devino had minor injuries, including a cut on her hand and scrapes on her arms, and EMS personnel treated her at the scene.

Where the Sheriff's Office Investigation Stands

The sheriff's office said its investigation is ongoing. Deputies Tim Gillis and Logan Catone and Investigator Jennifer Brockway are handling the case. LifeNet of New York and the Fort Edward and Wilton fire departments also assisted at the scene.

Which agency investigates often depends on where the crash happened. Highway crashes are often handled by state police or highway patrol, and crashes on city streets by local officers.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in New York usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your belongings. A damaged bike, phone, or clothes can be part of what insurance pays for.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
