How the Route 28 Crash Unfolded in Bridgewater

Officers were called to Union Avenue, which is part of Route 28, at Adamsville Road at 6:31 p.m. Police said a Tesla driven by a 38-year-old Bridgewater woman was heading west and was making a left turn. Police said the teenager was going straight through the intersection at the same time. Officers found the teen unresponsive and not breathing, and CPR was started at the scene. Medical crews moved him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and police said he died there. The Tesla driver had minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital, police said.

What the Bridgewater Police Investigation Involves

Police said the investigation is still open. No charges have been announced by Bridgewater police. Police asked anyone with information to call Officer Steve Black of the Traffic Safety Unit at the Bridgewater Township Police Department.

A crash that is still under investigation is one where the evidence is still being gathered. No conclusions have been reached at that stage.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in New Jersey usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
