How the Route 2 Crash Unfolded

State police said Fusco was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer westbound on Route 2 before the Exit 2 offramp at about 6:44 p.m. Police said the vehicle left its lane and struck the metal guardrail on the right shoulder. State police said it then continued left across both travel lanes and hit the concrete barrier in the median. Fusco suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

What State Police Are Asking of Witnesses

The crash remains under investigation by Connecticut State Police. Troopers asked anyone who saw the crash, or who was driving in the area and has dash camera footage, to contact Troop H in Hartford at (860) 534-1000. No charges have been announced.

Some evidence at a crash scene disappears within hours, so investigators record it first. The careful review of that evidence takes place later.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in Connecticut usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
