The Afternoon Collision on East South Frontage Road

Deputies responded at about 1:55 p.m. to a report of a three-vehicle collision in the 10700 block of East South Frontage Road in the Foothills. The sheriff's office said a gray Ford F150 was traveling eastbound when it failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit two other vehicles. The sheriff's office said each of the three drivers was alone in a vehicle, and all three were taken to Onvida Health.

While deputies investigated, the sheriff's office said a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado left the Best Western Plus and turned westbound onto the road. The sheriff's office said the pickup struck a deputy who was directing traffic. The pickup's driver, a Somerton resident, remained at the scene. The deputy was taken to Onvida Health, and the sheriff's office said the injuries were not life threatening.

Where the Yuma County Sheriff's Investigation Stands

The case remains under investigation. The sheriff's office said speed and impairment appear to be a factor in the three-vehicle collision. The office also noted that impairment does not seem to have played a part in the crash that involved the deputy. Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff's office, and no charges have been announced.

Lab testing for alcohol or drugs often takes several weeks. Charges can follow once those results come back.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Arizona usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
