Lexington, South CarolinaPublished 1 min read

Hillary Rain Rish, 35, of Leesville, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Fairview Road/US-178 in Lexington on October 13, according to the Lexington County Coroner's Office.

The Head-On Collision on Fairview Road

At around 7:17 a.m., Rish was driving a Dodge Durango westbound on Fairview Road/US-178 near the intersection of TA Ford Road when her vehicle and an eastbound Chevy Malibu collided head-on, troopers said. Rish was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a passenger in the Chevy Malibu were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

What Makes Head-On Car Crashes So Severe

The two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on the same road when they collided. Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous type of collision because the combined speed of both vehicles concentrates the force of impact on both drivers and their passengers.

South Carolina recorded 693 traffic deaths in 2026 through Oct. 16, according to preliminary S.C. Department of Public Safety data.

After a car crash, investigators examine tire marks, point of impact, and vehicle positions, then compare that physical evidence against witness statements to understand how the collision unfolded.
