Multi-vehicle collision closes southbound 5 Freeway lanes near Griffith Park for hours
Hossein Safaie, 77, was killed in a crash on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway south of Glendale Boulevard near Griffith Park early Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The multi-vehicle pileup occurred at approximately 2:56 a.m. in the southbound lanes. Paramedics transported a second person from the wreckage to a local hospital for treatment.
The exact sequence of events remains under investigation, though authorities are examining whether weather-related factors played a role in the collision.
A Sigalert closed the southbound lanes for nearly three hours before reopening at 5:55 a.m.
