Ivan Beltran Arrested in Victorville DUI Accident

An Apple Valley man faces felony charges after his SUV crossed the center line and struck a sedan head-on
A 33-year-old Apple Valley man was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI after a head-on crash that injured another driver on Amargosa Road near Smoke Tree Road in Victorville, California, on Friday, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Ivan Beltran was driving a southbound SUV when he swerved into oncoming traffic and struck a northbound sedan. Deputies determined he was under the influence at the scene and took him into custody.
The impact crushed the front of the sedan and caused the SUV to overturn, coming to rest on its roof off the road. Paramedics treated the driver of the sedan at the scene before taking them to a local hospital.
Debris littered the area as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage. The Victorville Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the ongoing inquiry.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, 1,355 people were killed in alcohol‑involved crashes statewide in 2023, a 4.5% decrease from 2022 but nearly 55% higher than in 2014.
How did the SUV cross into oncoming traffic on Amargosa Road?
Investigators examining a crash site will likely review tire marks, vehicle damage, and electronic data to build a timeline of the SUV's path before it crossed the center line. The sudden impact of a wrong-way collision leaves victims facing severe physical and financial challenges.
While criminal charges address the state's case against an impaired driver, injured parties must handle a separate process to secure their future.
Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "Serious roadway crashes often involve contributing factors that standard investigations never fully explore, from subtle mechanical failures and worn tires to roadway design problems that created conditions for a predictable collision."
"An attorney can commission independent reviews of those elements, ensuring the full picture emerges and injured occupants are not left managing serious consequences alone," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.
What are the next steps for the injured sedan driver?
Insurance adjusters often contact injured parties within days of a crash, before the full extent of medical costs and long-term impacts are known.
"Insurance companies often move quickly to close claims before the full impact of injuries becomes clear, and an attorney helps injured people understand exactly what any proposed settlement covers before accepting terms that may leave significant long-term care needs unaddressed," explained Stefano Formica, a national legal analyst for Accident News and of counsel at Bond Legal.
California personal injury framework
California follows a pure comparative fault system. Injured parties may recover damages reduced by their percentage of fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of the crash.
Damages include economic losses (medical bills, lost income, rehabilitation) and non-economic losses (pain, suffering, emotional distress).
