An Apple Valley man faces felony charges after his SUV crossed the center line and struck a sedan head-on
A 33-year-old Apple Valley man was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI after a head-on crash that injured another driver on Amargosa Road near Smoke Tree Road in Victorville, California, on Friday, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Ivan Beltran was driving a southbound SUV when he swerved into oncoming traffic and struck a northbound sedan. Deputies determined he was under the influence at the scene and took him into custody.
The impact crushed the front of the sedan and caused the SUV to overturn, coming to rest on its roof off the road. Paramedics treated the driver of the sedan at the scene before taking them to a local hospital.
Debris littered the area as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage. The Victorville Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the ongoing inquiry.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, 1,355 people were killed in alcohol‑involved crashes statewide in 2023, a 4.5% decrease from 2022 but nearly 55% higher than in 2014.
