How the Highway 392 Crash Unfolded

The collision took place shortly before 8 a.m. while rain was falling and the road was wet, the Arkansas Department of Public Safety said. The department's crash report states that a 2001 Jeep Cherokee leaving a parking lot to head east moved into the westbound lane. The department said the Jeep hit a 2014 Kawasaki that was traveling west, and the two met head-on. Riddell was on the Kawasaki and died in the crash. A juvenile passenger riding with him also died, and relatives of both have been informed.

What the Arkansas State Police Investigation Covers

The Arkansas State Police investigated the crash. No charges have been announced. Authorities have not said whether more details will be released.

Investigators work quickly at the scene because marks on the road and other evidence fade fast. Much of the slower work happens later, away from the scene.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in Arkansas usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
