The Early Morning Crash on Elm Street

The crash happened at about 1:39 a.m. at Elm Street and Springfield Road in Laclede County. Troopers said the Laclede County Sheriff's Office was chasing a 2009 Ford Focus when the car went off the left side of the road. The Highway Patrol said the Focus driver came back onto the road and hit the man, who was riding a 2021 Harley-Davidson. Troopers said the car then went onto private property and hit several objects before the driver ran off on foot. An ambulance took the motorcyclist to Mercy Hospital in Lebanon for treatment.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

What Is Known After the Elm Street Crash

The Highway Patrol listed the Ford Focus driver as unknown in its crash report. No charges have been announced. The Highway Patrol has not said whether the driver has been found.

Police often share a description of the vehicle they are looking for, such as its color or the damage it may have. Those details help people nearby recognize it.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Missouri usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
