Maxwell Patel Killed in Deerfield Beach Motorcycle Accident
The Parkland resident died after a Nissan made a U-turn into his path on West Hillsboro Boulevard
Maxwell Patel, 18, of Parkland, was killed in a motorcycle crash on West Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach, Florida, on Sept. 12, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
An eastbound 2017 Nissan Sentra attempted a U-turn from the left-turn lane into the westbound lanes, crossing directly into the path of an oncoming 2022 Suzuki GSX-R570. The motorcycle, driven by Patel, struck the passenger side of the car, causing the sedan to flip over. Patel was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile girl riding in the Nissan was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where she later died.
The adult female driver of the car and a juvenile boy were transported to Broward Health North, with the boy later airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition. Three other passengers in the sedan were also hospitalized.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), the state recorded 621 motorcycle fatalities in 2023.
