Five people were killed or injured in a two-vehicle car crash near where E. Hawthorne Road meets E. Parksmith Drive in Spokane County on October 31, according to the Spokane County Sheriff's Department.
How the Collision Near Hawthorne Road Unfolded
The sheriff's department arrived at the scene at 9:40 p.m. A blue Honda Civic was traveling east on Hawthorne Road, and a yellow Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling west on Parksmith Drive. Witnesses told officials the Mitsubishi was going very fast and overtook another car heading west. The two vehicles collided head-on.
A teenager in the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The two adults riding with the teen suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital. Two adults in the Mitsubishi were also injured and sent to a local hospital.
What the Sheriff's Department Is Still Investigating
Officials said they suspect the driver of the Mitsubishi was impaired, and they said the investigation is still ongoing. No names have been released for the people involved, and no charges have been announced.
Blood test results from a state lab can take weeks, so charges sometimes come well after a crash.
