Angelica Baxter, 37, a mother of three, was killed in a pedestrian crash on Cherry Road in Rock Hill on Monday night, according to the Rock Hill Police Department.
What Happened on Cherry Road
Authorities said Baxter was trying to cross the street west of Main Street when she was struck. Police said she was not in a crosswalk and had on dark clothing at the time. Baxter died at the scene. Police said the driver of the pickup truck went to a nearby store and waited there for officers. A cousin later drove from Columbia to the scene and found that she had already died.
Where the Rock Hill Police Investigation Stands
The Rock Hill Police Department has a specialized reconstruction team looking into how the collision unfolded. The driver's mother said her family is cooperating with police. Baxter's family said they want answers and closure for her three children and her parents. Relatives said they do not know where she was headed.
Investigators often ask nearby homes and businesses for camera video soon after a crash. Many systems record over old footage after a few days or weeks, so they move fast.
