A man was killed in a pedestrian crash on Mooney Boulevard in Visalia on November 1, according to Visalia police.
What Happened on Mooney Boulevard
Visalia police said a vehicle heading north on Mooney Boulevard, close to Beech Avenue, hit a man in the roadway shortly after 4 a.m. Investigators said a marked Visalia Police Department patrol car then drove through the same spot seconds afterward and hit the man again. Police said the officer had no knowledge of the first impact. The department said the officer stopped traffic and helped the man until medical crews could take him away. He was pronounced dead at Kaweah Health Medical Center.
Where the California Highway Patrol Review Stands
Visalia police said the California Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation of both collisions. Police said the area was expected to stay blocked off for several hours, and drivers were asked to use another route. Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call Visalia Police.
Police often ask witnesses to come forward in the days after a crash. Even a small detail from someone who saw it can help fill in the picture.

Here is what families in California usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
