Kristine Poulos, 32, a mother of two, was killed in a pedestrian crash on Woodman Avenue in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles on October 31 after a Los Angeles Police Department patrol vehicle struck her.
The Night of the Woodman Avenue Collision
The crash happened at night on Woodman Avenue. Police said the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and siren were on. Poulos was pronounced dead at the scene. Her relatives described her as a loving mother who hoped for a brighter future for her daughters. Her sister said the family hopes people will remember the life she led.
Questions Still Open on Woodman Avenue
The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation. Poulos' relatives have met with investigators and said they still have questions, including how fast the patrol vehicle was traveling. Her daughter organized an online fundraiser to help cover funeral and burial costs.
Vehicles from a serious crash are often towed to a secure lot and held for inspection. That is a standard step, and the vehicles can be held for weeks.

Lost someone in a crash like this?
Here is what families in California usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
