How the County Road 1130 Crash Unfolded

The crash happened at about 1 a.m. Sunday, three miles north of Clifton Hill. The driver, John Griggs, 18, of Ashland, was heading east in a 2023 Ford F-150, and the 19-year-old rode with him, the patrol's crash report said. The patrol said Griggs lost control, and the pickup left the right side of the road and overturned. The seriously injured passenger was brought to Moberly Regional Medical Center. According to the patrol, Griggs had minor injuries and declined treatment at the scene.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Where the Highway Patrol Case Stands

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Griggs was arrested. He is suspected of felony DWI that caused serious physical injury, and of not keeping to the right half of the road. The patrol handled the crash report for the Randolph County wreck.

An arrest at the scene is often only the first step. Formal charges are usually decided later by prosecutors.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Missouri usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
