The Morning Crash on Baseline Road

The collision happened around 8:15 a.m. at a South Phoenix bus stop, where people were waiting. Officials said a single car hit the bus stop and six people needed treatment. They said one person was trapped and had to be extricated.

Sanchez's family said she was on her way to work when she was hurt. The family said she remains in critical condition but is improving. Her partner, Johnny Garcia, said she is a student at ASU and had just started a new job.

Where Things Stand After the Phoenix Crash

Police have not released more information about the other people hurt or about the driver. The Phoenix Union High School District confirmed that one of the other people hurt is a current student. An online fundraiser has been set up to support Sanchez's medical recovery and her family.

Much of the evidence at a crash scene is only there for a short time, so investigators document it right away. The longer analysis comes afterward.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Arizona usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your belongings. A damaged bike, phone, or clothes can be part of what insurance pays for.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
