The Sloan Mill Road Collision in Hall County
The state patrol said its preliminary investigation found that an SUV heading north on Sloan Mill Road struck the back of a minivan. The state patrol said the SUV driver left the scene after the collision. The Hall County Sheriff's Office said deputies later found the driver at his home. The driver has been identified as Dennis Meloche, 44, of Gainesville, and he was not hurt. Minor injuries were reported for a 69-year-old passenger in his vehicle, the minivan driver and a passenger in the minivan.
Where the State Patrol Case Stands
Troopers arrested Meloche, and the state patrol said he was charged with DUI, hit and run, following too closely and an open container violation. Meloche was still held at the Hall County Jail when last checked. The state patrol released its crash report on Sunday afternoon.
Hit-and-run investigations can stay open for months. Some are solved long after the crash, when a new tip or piece of video comes in.
