A woman was injured in a car crash at Mojave Drive and Amargosa Road in Victorville on October 30, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

How the Mojave Drive Crash Unfolded

The crash was reported at about 11:57 p.m. where Mojave Drive meets Amargosa Road. A sheriff's spokeswoman said the driver of one car, Daniel Zamarripamurillo, 33, of Adelanto, was heading east on Mojave Drive when he crossed into the opposing lanes and hit another vehicle. The woman driving that other vehicle was taken to a hospital, and officials have not said how badly she was hurt. Firefighters at the scene said one of the drivers, a man, had left on foot and was last seen going north on Amargosa Road.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Where the Sheriff's Investigation Goes From Here

Sheriff's officials said deputies who contacted Zamarripamurillo found he was under the influence of alcohol. Deputies arrested him on suspicion of DUI, and he was booked into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto. His booking records show three alleged violations of the state Vehicle Code, sections 23153(a), 23153(b) and 23153(f), each involving bodily injury. The records also showed he was let out on bail and had no court date set.

An arrest at the scene is often only the first step. Formal charges are usually decided later by prosecutors.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in California usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
