Ventura, CaliforniaPublished 1 min read

One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a car crash at Harbor Boulevard and Schooner Drive in Ventura on October 25, according to the Ventura Police Department.

How the Harbor Boulevard Crash Unfolded

The crash happened just before 2 a.m. on Sunday. Officers arrived to find two 19-year-old men who had been thrown from their car. The passenger had life threatening injuries, and the driver had major injuries. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated the car was traveling south on Harbor Boulevard before it struck the center median and rolled over. The passenger later died from those injuries, according to police.

What the Ventura Police Investigation Involves

The investigation is ongoing, police said. The Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office will provide information on the person who died once next of kin are notified, according to police. Anyone with more information was asked to contact the Ventura Police Department Traffic Bureau.

Vehicles from a serious crash are often towed to a secure lot and held for inspection. That is a standard step, and the vehicles can be held for weeks.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in California usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
