What Happened on Refugee Road NW

Deputies were sent to the crash at about 3:45 p.m., near 8060 Refugee Road NW. The sheriff's office said the vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a tree head-on. Emergency crews from Violet Township took all three people in the vehicle to hospitals, with the adult woman who was driving going to Mount Carmel East Hospital and two juvenile passengers going to Nationwide Children's Hospital. The Franklin County Coroner's Office later told deputies that one of the juvenile passengers had died at Children's Hospital. The sheriff's office said the other juvenile has since been discharged, and the driver remained hospitalized as of its October 27 news release.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in Ohio usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
