The Afternoon Collision on Highway 72

The crash happened around 1:20 p.m. near County Road 3020. The patrol said the driver, a 62-year-old man from Conway, Arkansas, was heading west in a 2017 Honda Accord when it went across the centerline and hit a 2023 Ford Maverick. A 24-year-old man from Mountain View, Missouri, was driving the Maverick, and a 21-year-old man from Winona, Missouri, was riding as a passenger. Troopers said both vehicles ended up off the road in a ditch. The Conway man was declared dead at the scene at about 2:30 p.m. Authorities said the Mountain View man had serious injuries and the Winona man had moderate injuries, and both were airlifted to Cox South in Springfield.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in Missouri usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
