The Morning Crash on Highway 5

The crash happened Thursday morning on Highway 5, just south of the Santa Fe Trail. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the man was driving north in a 2018 GMC Denali 1500 when it went off the right side of the road and struck a tree. He was flown to University Hospital for serious injuries. The patrol said he was not wearing a seat belt. The truck was totaled.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

What the Highway Patrol Investigation Shows

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has completed a crash report on the wreck. The patrol does not release the names of people involved in its crash reports. Troopers have not announced any charges, and no other vehicles have been reported in the crash.

People often hear very little from investigators in the first days after a crash. That quiet is normal while evidence is gathered, and it does not mean the case has stalled.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Missouri usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
