Clatsop County, OregonPublished 1 min read

One person was killed and three others were hospitalized in a three-car crash on Highway 26 in Clatsop County on Monday, according to Oregon State Police.

How the Highway 26 Crash Unfolded

The crash happened on Monday afternoon near milepost 23.4. Oregon State Police said the driver, Abigail Hernandez Redondo, 36, collided head-on with a car driven by Gregory Allen Jones, 69. Police said Jones' car then struck a Volkswagen ID4. Redondo died at the scene, according to police.

First responders took Redondo's passenger, Nestor Ivan Abaunzas-Alguera, 37, to the hospital with serious injuries. Jones and his passenger, Linda Jones, 65, were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The four people in the Volkswagen, including two juveniles, were not hurt, police said.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Where the Oregon State Police Investigation Stands

Oregon State Police closed Highway 26 for about four hours during the on-scene investigation. The agency has not announced any charges. No further details about the investigation have been released.

People often hear very little from investigators in the first days after a crash. That quiet is normal while evidence is gathered, and it does not mean the case has stalled.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Oregon usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
