How the Philomath Boulevard Crash Unfolded

Officers responded to the intersection around 6 p.m. Police said the driver of a white Ford Bronco, Bronc D. Shuey, 31, of Corvallis, was going west and turning onto Southwest 53rd Street when the Bronco struck a red Toyota Avalon head-on. The Avalon was traveling east. Inside the Avalon were an 81-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman. Police said both were seriously injured and had to be freed from the car. They were taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, and police said relatives have been notified. Both vehicles were destroyed and towed from the scene.

What the Corvallis Police Investigation Involves

Police said officers arrested Shuey and booked him into jail. Police said he faces charges that include driving under the influence of alcohol, two assault counts, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and reckless driving. The Major Crash Team helped investigators, and Southwest Philomath Boulevard was closed for about three hours. The Corvallis Police Department is asking witnesses or anyone with details about the crash to call.

An arrest at the scene is often only the first step. Formal charges are usually decided later by prosecutors.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Oregon usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
