What Happened at SH 105 and Tram Road

At about 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, the collision was reported at the intersection near the Beaumont city limits. Sgt. Shana Clark of the Texas Department of Public Safety said a Dodge pickup was heading east on SH 105 when its driver tried to turn left onto Tram Road. A westbound Mazda SUV and the pickup collided, and the Dodge overturned. The Mazda's driver, a 17-year-old girl from Beaumont, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Her 13-year-old passenger was not hurt. The pickup's driver, a 51-year-old woman from Beaumont, was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

How Traffic and the Investigation Stand Now

Ambulance crews took both drivers from the scene after responders from Jefferson County Emergency Services District No. 1, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Public Safety arrived. Westbound traffic was shut down and one eastbound lane was closed while crews worked. All lanes have since reopened. Sgt. Clark described the findings as preliminary, and no charges have been announced.

Investigators often ask nearby homes and businesses for camera video soon after a crash. Many systems record over old footage after a few days or weeks, so they move fast.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Texas usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
