What Happened Near Southeast 8th and Division
A MAX train struck the bicyclist at about 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said. Portland Fire & Rescue said one person was taken to OHSU with possible life-threatening injuries. More than a dozen first responders were at the scene. The bicyclist has not been identified.
What Is Still Unknown After the Portland Crash
Portland Fire & Rescue has not released further details about the crash. A Sheriff's Office spokesperson said on Friday that the teenager was still in critical condition. Officials said the investigation disrupted MAX Orange Line service and closed streets, and cars and trains were running normally again by midnight. The bicyclist's name has not been made public, and officials have not announced any charges or released a crash report.
Rail crashes can involve several agencies at once, including local police, the railroad's own investigators and federal safety officials. Each may share information on its own schedule.
