How the I-35 Crash Near Lyndale Avenue Unfolded

The crash happened shortly after 11:50 p.m., about two miles north of the I-35 and Lyndale Avenue interchange. The State Patrol said a southbound Mini Cooper left the interstate and rolled. The State Patrol identified the driver as Tate Nathaniel Anderson, 27, of Kasson, and the passenger as Kevin Rafael Perez, 32, of Northfield. Both men had non-life-threatening injuries, the patrol said. Anderson went by ambulance to a Rochester hospital, St. Marys, while Perez was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

What Comes Next After the State Patrol Report

The State Patrol's crash report said Anderson was suspected of having alcohol in his system. The report said Perez was not buckled up, and it is not known whether Anderson was wearing a seat belt. Deputies from Rice County, Faribault police officers and Faribault Ambulance crews also came to the scene. No charges have been announced.

Blood test results from a state lab can take weeks. That is why charges in these cases sometimes come well after the crash.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Minnesota usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
