At least one person was hurt in a crash on the northbound side of the Golden Gate Bridge on Tuesday morning, October 27, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Early Morning Golden Gate Bridge Crash

The highway patrol said officers were sent to the bridge a little after 6:10 a.m. after a crash on the span. Every northbound lane was shut during the morning because of the crash. By about 7:15 a.m., northbound traffic was backed up past the Highway 1 and Highway 101 interchange. The southbound side, from Marin County toward San Francisco, stayed open. The people involved have not been named, and few other details have been released.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

What Comes Next for Golden Gate Bridge Travelers

Officials did not say at first when the northbound lanes would reopen, and they asked drivers to find other ways to travel between San Francisco and the North Bay. The northbound lanes have since reopened. The California Highway Patrol has not released further details about the crash, and no charges have been announced.

New information about a crash usually comes from the investigating agency, often through a news release or its social media pages. Updates can be days or weeks apart.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in California usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
