The Night Crash on Trekell Road

A flood of calls reached Casa Grande Police about a collision at 11:16 p.m. on Trekell Road, in the stretch between Shadow Ridge Drive and Palm Parke Boulevard. One of the vehicles caught fire. Officers who arrived found it fully engulfed, and they could not tell whether anyone was inside.

Casa Grande Fire Department crews put out the flames, and a person was then found in the driver seat. Family members later identified the driver as Ybarra. Nobody in the second vehicle was hurt.

Where the Casa Grande Investigation Stands

The crash remains under investigation. A GoFundMe for Ybarra has been set up on his parents' behalf.

A long road closure after a crash usually means investigators are mapping the scene. They need everything left in place while they take measurements and photos.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in Arizona usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
