2 Killed in Oceana County Car Accident
Sheriff's deputies identified the drivers as Austin Martinez, 21, of New Era, and Graciela Esqueda, 64, of Shelby, who died in a crash on South Oceana Drive.
Two drivers, Austin Martinez, 21, of New Era, and Graciela Esqueda, 64, of Shelby, were killed in a car crash on South Oceana Drive in Oceana County on October 27, according to Oceana County sheriff's deputies.
How the South Oceana Drive Crash Unfolded
Deputies said the crash happened at about 2:15 p.m. on South Oceana Drive, south of West Webster Road in Grant Township. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles, a Chevrolet Malibu and a Hyundai Tucson, and were traveling in opposite directions. The vehicles collided nearly head-on. Both drivers were pinned inside, and Grant Township firefighters removed them with an extrication tool. An Aero Med helicopter crew gave medical assistance at the scene, but both drivers were pronounced dead there. Martinez was a graduate of Hart High School.
What the Sheriff's Office Investigation Involves
A crash reconstructionist is investigating the crash, deputies said. The road stayed shut for roughly four hours after the collision. In a statement, the Sheriff's Office extended its condolences to the families and friends of both drivers.
