How the U.S. 40 Crash Near Rocheport Unfolded

The crash happened at about 5:47 p.m. and involved two vehicles, a Chevrolet Equinox and a Jeep Renegade. The patrol said the Equinox, driven by a 75-year-old man from Clark, was headed east when it struck a deer. The patrol said the deer ended up in the westbound lane in front of the Jeep, went through its windshield and struck the Jeep's driver. The patrol said the Jeep then left the road and hit trees. The Equinox stopped on the right shoulder. The Glasgow man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the patrol said the Clark man was not hurt.

What Troopers Reported After the Crash

Troopers notified the Glasgow man's family. U.S. 40 was closed for about an hour before it reopened. The patrol has not announced any charges in connection with the crash.

Police usually wait to release the names of the people involved until their families have been told. That is why names often come out a day or more later.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in Missouri usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
