The Afternoon Crash on Highway 42 South
Oregon State Police said troopers were called out around 2:34 p.m. to a spot near milepost 13.8 in Coos County. Police said Rutland was heading west in a black Subaru Outback when the car did not make it through a sharp curve and went off the road. According to Oregon State Police, the Subaru slid down one embankment and hit a tree, then kept going down a steeper slope. Police said it stopped at the bottom and caught fire. Rutland was pronounced dead at the scene.
What Followed the Oregon State Police Investigation
Oregon State Police said the highway was disrupted for about half an hour while investigators worked at the scene. Police said the Coos County Sheriff's Office, Coquille Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation helped state troopers at the site. No charges have been announced.

Here is what families in Oregon usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
