What Happened on Route 8 Near Exit 24

Troopers responded early Wednesday to Route 8 south near Exit 24, where a pedestrian had been reported hit. Police said a 2005 Toyota Camry was stopped on the right shoulder shortly before the off-ramp for Exit 24. State police said Flores-Ramirez, the Camry's occupant, was standing outside the car near the rear on the driver's side when another vehicle swerved onto the shoulder and hit him. Police said the vehicle left the scene. Police said emergency crews treated Flores-Ramirez, who was then taken to Waterbury Hospital.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Where the Troop I Search Stands

State police said the vehicle they are looking for is a white Hyundai Genesis GV70, model years 2025 to 2027, with damage on the right side. Police said the damage covers the right front fender, the right headlight and the mirror on the right side. Troop I asked anyone with information to call 203-393-4200 and speak with Trooper Rivera, who is handling the investigation. Police also want to hear from drivers who were on that part of Route 8 around then and have dash camera video, including those who believe they did not see the crash.

Finding the vehicle is usually the main focus at the start of a hit-and-run investigation. Doorbell cameras and tips from neighbors frequently make the difference.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Connecticut usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your belongings. A damaged bike, phone, or clothes can be part of what insurance pays for.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
