The Late-Night Menlo Avenue Collision
Hemet police said the communications center received several 911 calls at about 11:55 p.m. about a vehicle and a pedestrian near State Street and Menlo Avenue. Officers found the pedestrian unresponsive and gave lifesaving aid until medical personnel arrived. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said early findings show the vehicle was going east on Menlo Avenue in the direction of State Street, and it struck the pedestrian, who had entered the road. Police said the vehicle had left the area before officers got there.
Where the Hemet Police Investigation Stands
The Hemet Police Department Traffic Bureau took over the investigation, and police said the circumstances remain under investigation. Police said the identity of the person who died is being withheld until next of kin are notified. Investigators kept Menlo Avenue shut for several hours between Alessandro Street and State Street while they processed the scene. Police asked anyone who saw the collision or has information to contact investigators at (951) 765-2400.

Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
