Monroe Township, New JerseyPublished 1 min read

Margaret M. Flail, 73, was killed in a pedestrian crash on Blue Bell Road in Monroe Township on November 5, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

What Happened on Blue Bell Road

Monroe Township police arrived on Blue Bell Road at 5:47 p.m. after a report that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian, according to documents filed in the case. The documents state that Flail died after she was brought to a local hospital. Police said in a criminal complaint that the driver, Shaun D. Fennimore, 46, of Bellmawr, left the scene. According to the documents, police found the suspected car parked at a Heritage convenience store, and surveillance video captured a man running away from it. A Monroe Township police K-9 named Cairo then tracked Fennimore to a wooded spot by Clayton and Railroad avenues, where officers arrested him.

Where the Gloucester County Case Stands

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office announced that Fennimore faces a second-degree charge of knowingly leaving the scene of a crash that caused a death, along with a third-degree charge of driving on a suspended license. The prosecutor said police got a search warrant to test Fennimore's blood and urine, and the results are still pending.

An arrest is often the first step after a crash like this. Prosecutors usually decide on formal charges at a later stage.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in New Jersey usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
