Driver Injured in Galena Car Accident
The driver has been identified as Marco B. Francois, 22, of Riverdale, Iowa, who was taken to a Dubuque hospital after a crash on S. Blackjack Road.
Marco B. Francois, 22, of Riverdale, Iowa, was injured in a single-car crash on S. Blackjack Road in rural Galena on Nov. 2, according to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office.
What Happened on S. Blackjack Road
The sheriff's office responded at about 6:30 p.m. after an iPhone crash detection alert. The alert placed the crash where S. Blackjack Road meets W. Sand Hill Road. Galena police and Jo Daviess deputies arrived to find the car overturned in a ditch, roughly 15 yards off the pavement.
Investigators said Francois had been driving north on S. Blackjack Road when the car left the roadway at a curve and hit a tree before rolling over. Authorities said he was thrown about ten yards from the car through its open sun roof. He was taken to a Dubuque hospital for treatment of his injuries, and deputies have not released his condition.
Where the Sheriff's Office Review Stands
The crash remains under investigation. Deputies said Francois was cited for not slowing down to avoid an accident and for improper lane usage.
Investigators often ask nearby homes and businesses for camera video soon after a crash. Many systems record over old footage after a few days or weeks, so they move fast.

Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.
Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.
