Dennis Allen Ault, 61, of Springfield, was killed when the semi he was driving crashed on Interstate 70 East near State Route 54 in Clark County on Oct. 29, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Troopers said Ault died where the crash happened.
The Early Morning Crash on I-70 East
The crash was reported at around 5:10 a.m. on eastbound I-70 at mile marker 64, near State Route 54. Ault was behind the wheel of a 2016 International Prostar tractor-trailer. Troopers said a preliminary investigation found the semi went off the right side of the road and struck a tree. A patrol dispatcher said a milk trailer was leaking, and hazmat crews were sent to the scene.
What the Highway Patrol Is Still Investigating
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. The eastbound lanes were closed for about an hour and a half while crews worked. The Clark County Sheriff's Office, local fire and EMS crews, the Ohio Department of Transportation, CareFlight and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency also responded.
Investigators work quickly at the scene because marks on the road and other evidence fade fast. Much of the slower work happens later, away from the scene.

Here is what families in Ohio usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
