The Evening Crash on W. University Drive

Denton police responded to the 8500 block of W. University Drive at around 7:30 p.m. Police said two vehicles had stopped to make a turn into the Parker House Haunted Attraction, and a third vehicle hit the back of one of them. Police said the impact pushed the first vehicle hit into oncoming traffic, where a tractor semi struck it. Ten people were taken to hospitals, including two in critical condition. A nearby resident said she was asleep when the crash happened and described it as the loudest bang she had ever heard.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Where the Denton Police Investigation Stands

Denton police said the investigation is ongoing. Police said they have ruled out alcohol as a factor. The current condition of those hospitalized has not been released. The westbound lanes stayed shut for several hours as first responders worked at the scene.

Vehicles from a serious crash are often towed to a secure lot and held for inspection. That is a standard step, and the vehicles can be held for weeks.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Texas usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
