How the Route 563 Crash Unfolded

The crash happened along a curved stretch of Route 563, and the car went into a home that then caught fire. Police said the man suffered a medical incident before the car left the roadway. He died at a hospital. His wife, who was 76 and riding in the car, was flown by air to Cooper Medical Center, where she was in critical condition.

The homeowners were inside with their dog when the car struck the house. Neighbor Benito Rinaudo said the homeowners, whom he described as 80 years old, were forced out of their home. "It's horrible for my neighbors who are 80 years old being displaced right now," Rinaudo said.

What Comes Next After the Woodland Township Fire

No charges have been announced. Authorities have not released further details about the investigation, and the homeowners remain out of their residence.

It can feel like nothing is happening in the days after a crash. Usually investigators are working steadily in the background and simply are not sharing details yet.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in New Jersey usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
