1 Killed, 4 Injured in Driscoll Car Accident
A passenger died and four other people, two of them children, were hurt when an SUV rolled over on U.S. 77 just north of Driscoll on Sunday afternoon.
Felicia Prieto, 37, of Mabank, was killed and four other people were hurt in a car crash on U.S. 77 near Driscoll on November 1, according to state troopers.
How the U.S. 77 Crash Near Driscoll Unfolded
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened at about 1:46 p.m. Sunday, just north of Driscoll. Investigators said a 40-year-old woman from Canton was driving a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe north on U.S. 77 with four passengers. The department said the SUV moved into the center median, then crossed both lanes and went onto the right shoulder, where it rolled. A backseat passenger was thrown from the vehicle, and it came to rest upside down in water. Passing drivers pulled the driver and three passengers out.
The department identified Prieto as the passenger who died, and the county medical examiner's office pronounced her dead at the scene. Two of the injured were children. CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Shoreline treated the driver, a 35-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl. A 12-year-old boy was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital.
What DPS Troopers Are Still Reviewing
Troopers from the Corpus Christi Highway Patrol Office are continuing to investigate the crash. The department has not shared how the injured are doing. No charges have been announced.
Police usually wait to release the names of the people involved until their families have been told. That is why names often come out a day or more later.

Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
