The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office identified the driver as Chase Nash, 24, of Dryden, who died after a crash on Hurd Road.
Chase Nash, 24, of Dryden, was killed in a car crash on Hurd Road in the Town of Dryden on Nov. 5, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office.
What Happened on Hurd Road in Dryden
Nash's 2017 Chevrolet Colorado pickup struck a tree on the 100 block of Hurd Road at about 5:50 p.m. Nash was the only person in the truck, and law enforcement said the tree trapped him inside. Tompkins County dispatch reported that the pickup became fully engulfed in flames as emergency crews responded. Firefighters from Dryden and surrounding agencies brought the fire under control before they located Nash, who had fatal injuries.
Where the Sheriff's Office Investigation Stands
The sheriff's office said its early findings showed the pickup left the roadway and that no other vehicles were part of the crash. Deputies, Dryden Ambulance and several fire agencies responded to the scene. The sheriff said in a statement that the office extends its condolences to Nash's family and loved ones.
A full investigation into a serious crash often takes weeks, and sometimes months. Investigators usually wait for vehicle data and lab results before they finish their report.
