A 63-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian crash on 38th Avenue in Long Island City on November 2, according to a law enforcement source.
What Happened at 38th Avenue and 11th Street
A law enforcement source said the man was crossing at 38th Avenue and 11th Street in the Dutch Kills section at about 12:10 a.m. when a driver in an unidentified vehicle struck him and sped away. A 911 caller reported a man in need of medical attention, and police went to the scene. Police said they found the man in the roadway, awake and alert, with a minor cut on his right leg and finger. EMS took him to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was first listed in stable condition. Police said he later died of his injuries.
Where the 114th Precinct Search Stands
Officers from the 114th Precinct are searching for the driver who left. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. The city medical examiner's office will determine how the man died. His identity is being withheld until his family has been notified.
Police often share a description of the vehicle they are looking for, such as its color or the damage it may have. Those details help people nearby recognize it.
